Jayne Wahlberg
Administrator of HERO |
- Graduate of Evangel College in 1978 with A.A. in Early Child Care and Development. Holds teaching certification for Preschool and Kindergarten.
- Administrator of Daycare at Calvary Assembly of God in White Bear Lake, MN during 1978 and 1979.
- 1979 to 1983 was Executive Secretary at Champion International, Inc.
- 1983 and 1984, worked as private tutor in the North St. Paul / Maplewood School District (622).
- In 1984 she gave up her career to become a full-time mother.
- In 1989 she began home-schooling her own children.
- Joined a local home-schooling support group in 1990.
- In 1996 Jayne founded St. Croix Valley Home school Cooperative, an incorporated organization with the State of Minnesota. The co-op served approximately 35 families (50 children) in its' first year of operation and was located in North St. Paul.
- In 1997 and 1998, Jayne moved the co-op to the Stillwater area, where it continued to grow and serve the home schooling community.
- By late 1998 the co-op had grown to over 60 families (100 children). The co-op meeting location moved to White Bear Lake, a more centrally located base for the co-op families.
- In 1999 Jayne reorganized the co-op under the new name of Home Educators Resource Organization (HERO). Jayne continued in her role as Administrator of the organization, expanding its' customer base to over 80 families (150 children).
- In 2000, because of space needs, HERO moved its' home base of operation to First Presbyterian Church in White Bear Lake.
- In 2001, Jayne registered HERO as a 501(c)3 organization with the State of Minnesota. At that time HERO served approximately 100 home schooling families (200 children).
- By the second semester of the 2002-2003 school year, HERO was outgrowing its' facility. In September of 2003 Jayne expanded HERO to a three-day program, offered at two different locations (two days at Forest Lake and one day at Woodbury). Registration for the 2003-2004 HERO school year was over 300 students.
- In the 2004-2005 school year, HERO continued to grow, and serve about 350 students. Jayne continued in the roll of Administrator at both the Forest Lake and Woodbury campuses.
- In the 2006-2007 school year, HERO served 450 students.
- In 2006 HERO moved the Woodbury site to a location in Inver Grove Heights.
- The 2007-2008, a decision was made to close the southern site and focus on the Forest Lake location. HERO added another lunch room in Forest Lake and an additional five classrooms plus a study hall room. We replaced all of our ten computers with 10 new HP's with Vista and 19" flat screen monitors. We feel that we will be able to do a better job of serving the home schooling community by focusing on one location.
- In June of 2009, Jayne Wahlberg was asked to serve as secretary on the MHA (Minnesota Homeschool Alliance) board.
- Jayne is a homeschool consultant and workshop speaker.
- 2010-2011 begins our fifthteenth year for HERO.
